A man was killed Monday night when the van he was driving ran off of Interstate 57 and struck some trees in Marion County, Illinois State Police said.

The identity of the 50-year-old driver from Lawrenceville, GA, was not released pending notification of his family.

The accident happened in the northbound lane near exit 127 (Alma) at 7:17 p.m.

A release from the state police said the van left the roadway on the right, then veered back on the highway, crossed both lanes and ran off the road on the left. The vehicle went ``down an embankment and struck several trees before rolling onto the driver side,” according to the release.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
