Stray pigs on the lam near Belleville West. Neighbors helping to bring home the bacon

Two pot-bellied pigs were found roaming the neighborhood near Town Hall Road in Belleville Thursday afternoon.

The pigs were first sighted Tuesday along the property lines with the neighborhood and Belleville West High School.

“It’s very obvious they are used to people,” said Amy Williams, who lives in the area. “We just don’t want them to get a foothold and start breeding.”

Residents have tried contacting local officials with not much success.

Gay Arnold, with Lost Paws trapping, was on the scene Thursday afternoon. She tried to leash the pot-bellied pigs but the pigs darted away whenever she inched closer.

“They like the Vienna Sausages we use to trap dogs, but as soon as I start to move closer they move away and out of reach of the loop leash,” Arnold said.

Arnold estimated the pigs weigh around 80 pounds and hopes to bring in large dog traps to capture them.
