Here’s why an East St. Louis interstate was shut down
The Illinois Department of Transportation reported all westbound lanes of Interstate 64 were reopened at the 25th Street exit in East St. Louis after being closed because of a one-vehicle crash Friday afternoon.
A vehicle was going west on the highway at 1:02 p.m. when it blew a tire and overturned, according to preliminary investigation by the Illinois State Police.
The driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The transportation department released a photo on Twitter that showed a box truck on its side. This photo was posted at 1:25 p.m. and at 2:22 p.m., the department said the highway had reopened to traffic.
