Man who died in Edwardsville tornado was a dedicated grandfather who ‘stole the show’

The Belleville News-Democrat is gathering information on each of those who died when a tornado caused parts of an Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville to collapse. Information will be published as it becomes available.

Kevin Dickey, 62, of Carlyle was a sports fan and dedicated grandfather. He was one of six who died in a tornado at an Amazon facility in Edwardsville.

“He loved his family and friends and treasured time spent together,” Dickey’s obituary reads. “He was most proud of his grandchildren.”

Dickey is survived by five children and six grandchildren.

In a statement provided to ABC News and the Randolph County Herald Tribune, Dickey’s family said their hearts were with the other families who lost loved ones in the tornadoes that rolled through the Midwest. Including the six deaths in Edwardsville, at least 90 people in five states died in the devastating storms, according to The New York Times.

“Dad talked often about his co-workers and their daily stories, he had a great bond with many,” Dickey’s family said in the statement. “Dad was a kind man that loved spending time with his family. He stole the show and the hearts of his grandchildren anytime he was around. He will be truly missed, we have lost a very special person. “

Visitation for Dickey will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm on Thursday at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, Illinois.
