The Granite City Police Department has released the names of three people killed in an apartment fire Thursday afternoon.

Kimberly A. Wyatt, 46, Josephy W. Calame Sr., 45, and Kyle M. Francis, 35, all were pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison County coroner’s office, according to a release. All were residents of the building.

Firefighters arrived at 2437 E. 23rd St. at about 12:45 p.m. By the time they arrived, occupants of the building were jumping from second and third floor windows to escape the smoke and flames, Granite City Fire Chief Rich Wilson told KSDK.

At least 15 people escaped the seven-unit building, Fox2 reported Thursday. None of them are in critical condition but three of them were treated at the hospital, the TV station said. Their current condition is not known.

Granite City, Madison, Mitchell and Long Lake fire departments responded and were able to control the blaze, police said. The bodies of the three victims were discovered during a search of the building.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal and Granite City Police are investigating the cause of the fire.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of Ms. Wyatt, Mr. Calame, and Mr. Francis for their loss,” Assistant Chief Nich Novacich said on behalf of the Granite City Police Department. “The community of Granite City mourns alongside these families and are devastated by this tragedy. “
