A married couple from Grafton died in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 in Jefferson County Wednesday, Illinois State Police said.

Terry Stromski, 73, and his wife Kathy Stromski, 70, were driving northbound in a GMC Sierra when they struck the rear of a Peterbilt truck that was stopped at milepost 84, south of Mount Vernon, said police in a news release.

Kathy Stromski was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Terry Stromski was pronounced dead at the scene, Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse said.

The crash occurred at about 2:32 p.m., according to state police. Interstate-57 was closed for 90 minutes during the crash investigation.

The driver of the semi, Nodell D. Graves, 31, of Madison, Wisconsin, was not injured.
