One killed, another in serious condition following Granite City car crash

The Granite City Police Department is investigating a fatal car crash that occurred early Sunday morning.

At approximately 1:24 a.m., officers responded to a single car accident. The vehicle was traveling northbound on Madison Avenue near 15th Street at what appeared to be a high speed, according to police. The vehicle exited the roadway, striking multiple utility poles, before coming to rest on its roof.

One occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and another was transported to a St. Louis-area hospital in serious condition.

Police have not released the name of either victim. The investigation is ongoing.
