Here’s a list of events to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr.

The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday will be celebrated on Monday in remembrance of the slain civil rights leader.

Here are some area events in honor of King:

Sunday

▪ A sermon on the Rev. Martin Luther King — 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Sunday. New Life in Christ Church at 689 Scott-Troy Road in O’Fallon. You can watch the 10 a.m. sermon on the church’s Facebook page, the church’s website or on YouTube.

Monday

With the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in the region, area groups are hosting virtual events in remembrance of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday.

▪ 55th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration Program — Noon Monday. This virtual event honoring Martin Luther King Jr. can be viewed online via the Facebook page of St. Luke AME Church of East St. Louis.

▪ The Missouri History Museum will host three virtual events on Zoom on Monday. Go to mohistory.org/mlk-celebration for a link.

10 a.m. A youth activism workshop recommended for ages 12 to 18. Youths will discuss concepts of societal justice.

10:30 a.m. The St. Louis Black Authors of Children’s Literature presents storytelling performances by local authors Tracie Berry-McGhee and by Aja La’Star Owens.

11:15 a.m. A youth activism workshop recommended for ages 6 to 12. After the workshop, caregivers are invited to participate in a dialogue on race and parenting.

▪ The University of Missouri at St. Louis will host a virtual celebration titled “Embracing the Dream in a Season of Uncertainty” — 11 a.m. Monday.
