Illinois State Police have released the identity of the man killed in a two-vehicle crash in St. Clair County on Monday.

Steven Rance Vaughn, 56, of Waterloo, was traveling on Illinois 158 near Millstadt at around 12:21 p.m., when his pickup truck was hit head on by a box truck, according to an ISP release.

Police say Clayton Ferguson, 65, of Freeburg, the box truck’s driver, was attempting to make a left turn off Illinois 158 and into a business near Besse Lane when he hit Vaughn’s pickup truck.

Ferguson, who was not injured, was cited for failure to yield while turning.

Shiloh resident Greg O’Neil said he was driving south toward Columbia on Illinois 158 when he came upon the accident.

O’Neil used his cellphone to snap a photo of the large, white box truck positioned across the highway with its cab in a ditch. The name “Enterprise” appeared on the door. The red pickup truck was off the road.

“It was bad,” O’Neil said.
