Madison County coroner identifies southwest Illinois man who died in traffic crash

Madison County Coroner Stephen Nonn identified the man who died in a two-vehicle traffic crash Friday afternoon as Traveon Ward Jr., 22, of Bethalto.

On Friday afternoon, Ward’s vehicle crossed the center line in the 900 block of South Moreland Rd. in Bethalto, striking a truck, according to the coroner’s office.

Ward was the only person in his car, and he was declared deceased at the scene at 5:42 p.m. A married couple from Hartford was treated on the scene before being taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Bethalto Police Department.
