A blast of winter weather is not going to stop the professional wrestling fundraiser scheduled at the Belle-Clair Fairgrounds Saturday to raise money for the family of a firefighter who’s battling stage four cancer.

The event is being hosted for French Village Fire Chief Al LaPointe, according to Herb Simmons, director of the St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency.

LaPointe, 51, is also a battalion chief of the Rock Community Protection Fire District in Arnold, Missouri.

Simmons also is the longtime promoter of Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling. He said all proceeds from Saturday’s event will be given to the LaPointe family.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. at the fairgrounds located at 200 South Belt East in Belleville. A silent auction starts at 6 p.m. followed by live, professional wrestling matches at 7 p.m.
