More rain to bring June to a close, begin July

Rain is back in the forecast for one last time in a very soggy June, with the likelihood July will begin on a wet note as well.

The National Weather Service has forecast a 30 percent chance of showers this afternoon with a greater chance of rain and thunderstorms Tuesday night. The high Tuesday should reach 89.

On Wednesday, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the area with a high of 79. More rain is in the forecast for Thursday, when the high should reach into the upper 70s again.

Friday’s forecast calls for only a slight chance of rain – 14 percent – but a 60 percent chance of storms re-enters the Fourth of July forecast.

Nothing new there: The region has already received a record amount of rain for June – more than 13 inches – and the state of Illinois as a whole has had its wettest June ever, with an average of more than 8 inches of rain across the state.
