Pedestrian killed in a single vehicle crash on I-55 in St. Clair County

A pedestrian was killed early Monday morning in a single vehicle crash in St. Clair County.

Illinois State Police responded to a single-car crash involving a pedestrian in the southbound lane of Interstate 55 near milepost 4.5 in Fairmont City. Trooper Joshua Robinson, Public Information Officer for the Illinois State Police District 11 said the accident occurred shortly after 1 a.m.

The driver and passengers of the vehicle were transported to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene by a St. Clair coroner, Robinson said.

The two right lanes on I-55 were closed during the crash investigation. All traffic lanes reopened at approximately 5:50 a.m.

The crash investigation remains active, Robinson said.
