Southwest Illinois woman killed while walking wrong way on state highway

Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal single-car crash involving pedestrian in Marion County.
Hailey M. Budde, 23, of Salem, was walking northbound in the center of the southbound lane on Illinois 37 near North Broadway and Oakwood streets when Courtney C. Gunnels, 28, of Kinmundy struck and killed her, according to an ISP release.
The incident occurred at about 10:05 p.m. Sunday.
Police said Gunnel attempted to steer clear of Budde by swerving left. Budde transported to an area hospital where she later died from her injuries.
