The St. Clair County Transit District’s highest earner in the 2020-21 fiscal year that ended on June 30 was Managing Director Ken Sharkey, who was paid $139,804.36, according to records provided to the BND from the district through a Freedom of Information Act request for the latest annual figures available.
Anthony Erwin, the director of facilities and maintenance, was the second-highest earner at $129,050.14, the records show.
Jonathan Frederick, the director of finance, was third with total wages of $87,432.35.
The fourth highest earner was Hollie Etling with $75,279.21 in total wages. Etling is the director of human resources for the district.
Willie Drisdel and Donald Hill were the fifth-highest earners in the district at $60,852.94 each. They each serve as an ambassador, or customer engagement and service representatives for the district.
The St. Clair County Transit District salaries do not include a district attorney since the district does not hire an attorney as an employee. Instead, the district paid a monthly retainer of $535 to Belleville attorney John Baricevic and $250 per hour as authorized by the transit district.
The district’s website at scctd.org has information about MetroBus and MetroLink routes in the county.

The BND’s Public Pay Database goes back to 2011 with information primarily obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests and public filings. The salary information does not always include insurance or benefits. Some records include detailed information on overtime and other pay, while for some districts that information was not readily available.
The database includes compensation for employees in most area governments, including cities, counties, townships, school districts and public colleges and universities. More pay records will be added as the BND receives salary data through open records requests.
