Coroner IDs woman fatally struck by a vehicle in Mascoutah

A 46-year-old Freeburg woman was struck by a car and killed Wednesday night in Mascoutah, police said.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the victim as Michelle Hartley.

Hartley was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, Dye said.

Illinois State Police District 11 is handling the investigation.

According to preliminary information released by Illinois State Police Trooper Joshua Korando, the fatal accident occurred at 9:40 p.m.

A 1999 Toyota Camry traveling west on Illinois 177 at Eidmann Road struck a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway, police said.

The car was driven by a 16-year-old male from Belleville and there was a 15-year-old female passenger, state police said in a news release on Thursday. The teens were not injured in the collision.

No other information was available from the police.
