Illinois State Police investigate Madison County car crash that killed two women
State police are investigating a fatal car crash that occurred Saturday morning on a highway in Madison County, according to a press release from Illinois State Police District 11 that was sent Sunday afternoon.
The crash involved two vehicles on I-55 near Livingston and resulted in the death of two St. Louis women, according to police. On Saturday, April 9, a gray Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on northbound lanes on the highway at milepost 37 and collided head-on with a black semi truck around 4 a.m. Police aren’t sure why the Camry was traveling southbound.
Two women were in the Camry and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police: the driver, Juandria S. Pickett, 30, of St. Louis and the passenger, Tiyana C. McCoy, 30, also of St. Louis.
The driver of the semi truck, Luvator N. Pierce, a 52-year-old female from St. Louis, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was sent to a hospital in the area, according to the press release. Police said the highway was closed for six hours during the investigation and lanes were reopened at 10:09 a.m.
“The events surrounding the crash remain under investigation and no further information is available at this time,” according to the press release.
