Godfrey man killed when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed in Madison County

A 34-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle accident Thursday night in Godfrey.

Bruce C. Edwards of Godfrey was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:45 p.m., according to Madison County Coroner Stephen Nonn.

According to information released by Nonn’s office, Edwards lost control of his motorcycle as it traveled west on Seiler Road and went through the intersection with Humbert Road, coming to rest on the property of Lewis and Clark Elementary School.

The victim was wearing a helmet, the release states. Nonn’s office is waiting on toxicology reports before a final cause of death will be released.

“Preliminary evidence observed at the scene suggest speed and wet road conditions may have contributed to the accident,” the release states.

The Madison County Sheriff’’s Department is investigating.
