Crews battled fires in two separate metro-east communities early Monday morning.

There were no injuries in either fire.

The Camp Jackson Fire Department was dispatched to 37 Drexel Dr., Cahokia Heights at 12:10 a.m. Fire Chief Sharon Davis said firefighters were on scene by 12:17 a.m. and, within 30 minutes, had the fire in the vacant wooden framed structure extinguished.

The fire is believed to have started in the rear of the structure, Davis said.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office is handling the investigation to determine a cause and he origin of the fire, Davis said.

Camp Jackson received mutual aid from the Cahokia Fire Department and Church Road Fire Department.

In a separate incident, the Brooklyn Fire Department was dispatched 6005 North 56th Street at 3:05 a.m. to battle a blaze in a vacant structure.

Brooklyn Deputy Fire Chief Mike Calhoun said when he arrived on scene he saw “heavy smoke conditions and fire on the outside of the wood frame structure.”

The fire was extinguished within a couple of hours, he said.

The fire appeared to have started in the front of the house.

Mutual aid was provided by the Venice Fire Department and Fairmont City Fire Department.
