73-year-old motorcycle driver dies in crash near Collinsville

A 73-year-old motorcycle driver died Friday in single-vehicle crash near Collinsville, according to authorities.

Illinois State Police on Saturday identified the driver as Dwayne T. Wendell, of Marshfield, Wisconsin.

The crash happened at about 4:30 p.m. Friday on the exit ramp from Interstate 55 northbound to Interstate 255 southbound, according to a news release from Illinois State Police. The agency stated that Wendell’s motorcycle left the road to the left and overturned in a median.

The reason the motorcycle left the road was not immediately clear. Illinois State Police said Saturday that their investigation is ongoing.
