The Illinois Department of Transportation announced on Monday that lanes on Interstate 64 will be closed for repairs.

Beginning Wednesday and continuing through May 16, the right lane on I-64 between Illinois 4 and Rieder Road in Mascoutah will be closed. From May 17 through May 19, the left lane will be closed, according to IDOT.

“These restrictions are needed to perform deck repairs on the structure,” an IDOT release stated. “IDOT Operations forces will make the needed improvements. Full access will be restored as soon as possible.”

IDOT warns that motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area.

Drivers also are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.
