What else is planned at large retail, entertainment development in Glen Carbon?

The Orchard Town Center development in Glen Carbon is underway.

Not that there’s much to see at this point.

I took a drive out to see what’s what, and I’m not gonna lie. There’s a lot of dirt.

I mean, a lot of dirt.

But this is a good thing because it means that the public will soon have multiple places to dine and to shop.

Developed by The Staenberg Group, Orchard Town Center will include an anchor business — the recently announced Meijer grocery store — and spaces for 12 business establishments.

So far, Meijer, Chick-fil-A and a Tidal Wave Car Wash have signed on to be part of the development, according to Tim Lowe, senior vice president of leasing & development.

The Glen Carbon Village Board approved the site plan for Chick-fil-A at its April 26 meeting. The restaurant plans to open in March 2023, according to Lowe.

He said that they are close to signing with other national chain restaurants, which he would not name.

There’s been a lot of interest in this market area since national chain restaurants already tend to do well here, performing above the average, said Lowe.

He said he was not able to announce any additional businesses at least until a purchase or leasing agreement is signed.

An earlier site plan layout for Orchard Town Center included Menards as the shopping center’s anchor. However, Menards recently dropped out, according to a report by the St. Louis Business Journal.

The Orchard Town Center shopping center site is located at the intersection of Troy Road (IL 159) and Governors Parkway in Glen Carbon.

I’ll keep tabs on the project and report new info as it becomes available.
