Reports: Passenger killed in second fatal small-plane crash in southwest IL this month
One person was killed Saturday in the second fatal airplane crash to happen this month near airports in southwestern Illinois.
A small, single-engine plane crashed into a swimming pool on Saturday afternoon at a home on Woods Lane in Centralia, which is close to the Centralia Municipal Airport, according to media reports.
KSDK reported that the pilot was airlifted to a hospital with injuries and the passenger died.
The National Transportation Safety Board announced Saturday on Twitter that it is investigating the Centralia plane crash. Media reports indicated the Federal Aviation Administration is also investigating.
The latest crash victim’s name has not been publicly released.
Another fatal crash happened July 2 near St. Jacob in Madison County.
A small, single-engine plane crashed into a field near St. Louis Metro-East Airport/Shafer Field. Robert L. Binger, 60, of Lake City, Florida, died in that crash.
