Man killed, driver charged with DUI in crash in Montgomery County, IL

A Witt man was killed following a car accident Saturday night on Illinois 16 in Montgomery County.

The 59-year-old was riding in a car being driven by Daniel Adams, 34, of Gillespie and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release from the Illinois State Police. The release also stated Adams was charged with driving under the influence (alcohol) and driving too fast for conditions. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the release, Adams was traveling west on Illinois 16 approximately 1/4 mile southwest of Fifth Street in Witt in a 2016 Black Dodge Van when, at approximately 7:25 p.m., his car veered off the road and struck an embankment and a tree.

Montgomery County is located approximately 68 miles north of Belleville.
