Here’s where to find flood recovery resources; how to help in St. Louis, southwest IL

Officials in East St. Louis and St. Clair County issued disaster proclamations this week after flooding led to evacuations and water rescues throughout the metro-east and St. Louis.

Here are some local resources available for food, shelter and more.

American Red Cross

The displaced residents in East St. Louis can go to Mason-Clark Middle School at 5510 State St.

Residents of St. Louis or southwest Illinois who have been affected by flooding can also seek assistance at an American Red Cross shelter at James Eagan Center, 1 James J Eagan Drive, Florissant, MO 63033.

People can stay overnight at the shelter, and you can stop by for food, water and information.

The free Disaster Distress Hotline is available at 1-800-985-5990.

United Way

Those who have been affected by flooding can fill out an online Disaster Intake form to be shared with local emergency management agencies and community organizations providing immediate and long-term assistance.

Residents of Missouri or Illinois areas can fill out the form, which will ask you to provide demographic and contact information.

You can also call 211 or 1-800-427-4626 to report this information and request assistance.

Community Lifeline

People can drop off donations of food, clothing and toiletries at Community Lifeline at 1764 State St. in East St. Louis.

St. Louis Area Food Bank

You can call 314-292-6262 for information about receiving food assistance. Several food pantries are available in the Belleville, East St. Louis, Fairview Heights and St. Louis areas.

You can also use https://stlfoodbank.org/programs-services/find-food/ to locate the nearest food pantry to you.

Supplies such as water, blankets, disinfectant and more are available at St. Ann Community Center at 1 Convention Center Drive, St. Ann, MO 63074.

The Salvation Army said supplies arrived Tuesday morning and were still available as of Wednesday.

How to help

Here are some places to donate to for flood relief efforts:

You can donate to the St. Louis Area Food Bank online. Call 314-292-6262 to ask about volunteer opportunities.

Gateway Pet Guardians is accepting donations to help with shelter and foster costs for the animals in the facility’s care, including dozens of animals displaced from St. Clair County Animal Control due to flooding.

Local restaurant Pizza Head is seeking donations of blankets, towels, clothing, food, water, pet supplies and more. The drop-off location is at Pizza Head (3196 S Grand Ave., St. Louis, MO 63118. Mention “flood relief.) Volunteers are also needed to help with sandbagging and distributing supplies. You can message @PizzaHeadSTL on Facebook for volunteer information.
