Resource center for flood victims is open Sunday at East St. Louis High School
A one-stop resource center for people who need assistance after recent flooding will be open Sunday at East St. Louis High School, 4901 State St.
The multi-agency resource center will be open from noon to 5 p.m.
People who need help can ask for assistance at the center. People are asked to bring identification that shows their address and proof of residence to show they are eligible for assistance from some of the agencies, which include state and local government, non-profits and other disaster relief organizations.
“In addition to other resources, the Red Cross will provide flood clean up supplies at the Multi-Agency Resource Centers to include cleanup kits (5 gallon buckets with cleaning cloths, brushes and other items), rakes, shoves, gloves, trash bags and plastic containers,” the American Red Cross said in a release.
United Way is coordinating the work of the non-profit and government agencies who are providing help.
Meanwhile, the American Red Cross temporary shelter in East St. Louis closed Friday as people who were staying in the shelter after the flooding have found other places to stay, according to a release from the agency.
The Red Cross said it provided 217 overnight stays at its shelters across the St. Louis area since July 26, when heavy rains caused flash flooding in the region.
