Man killed when pickup veers into traffic and is struck on Illinois 3 in Madison County
A 64-year-old Bethalto man was killed in a vehicle accident Tuesday on Illinois 3 in Hartford.
According to a release from the Madison County Coroner’s Office, Jeffrey R. Hasenjaeger was driving his 2007 Nissan Titan southbound on Illinois 3 on Tuesday afternoon and then turned east onto Seventh Street — “for reasons unknown” — into the path of an oncoming northbound vehicle where it was struck on the passenger side in a “T” bone manner.
Hasenjaeger was the only person in his pickup truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other car was not injured, nor was anyone else, according to the Madison County Coroner’s office.
The release noted a preliminary investigation shows blunt force chest and abdominal trauma as the cause of death. A final cause of death will not be issued until results of routine toxicological testing are complete, according to the coroner’s office.
Firefighters with the Hartford Fire Department as well as paramedics with Alton Memorial Ambulance responded to the scene.
The case remains under investigation by the Hartford Police Department, Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit, and the Madison County Coroner’s Office.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
