The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced a lane closure on southbound I-255 over Prairie Du Pont Creek near Cahokia Heights that will go into effect Tuesday morning.

The far left lane of the highway will be closed due to emergency bridge deck repairs, according to a press release from the state agency. It’ll be closed to traffic starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, weather permitting. The other two lanes will remain open. Drivers can expect all lanes to be open by 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept 9.

IDOT encourages drivers to allow for extra time when traveling through the area. Alternate routes should be considered if possible. Drivers should be attentive to changing conditions and signs in the work zones, adhere to speed limits and refrain from using mobile devices.

Updates from IDOT District 8 can be found on the GettingAroundIllinois.com or at Illinois Department of Transportation.
