Update: Fire destroys oil change business on Carlyle Avenue near Belleville city limits
Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a fire at an oil change business on Carlyle Avenue near Belleville Thursday morning.
The fire destroyed the Fast Oil Change Plus at 928 Carlyle Ave., East Side Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jared Runyan said.
Everyone escaped the business, which was open at the time the fire started.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal was called to investigate the cause.
The building was “fully engulfed” in flames by the time firefighters arrived, Runyan said.
East Side firefighters received a call for help at 9:56 a.m. and they cleared the scene at 2:45 p.m.
A representative of the company could not be reached for comment.
Carlyle Avenue was closed because fire hoses were on the roadway while firefighters battled the fire, and Runyan thanked the public for their patience while the normally busy street had to be shut down.
The fire was contained to the oil change business but Runyan said a nearby building had some minor heat damage to the siding.
The building is located in the East Side Fire Protection District. East Side received mutual aid from multiple fire departments including Belleville, Swansea, O’Fallon, Northwest and Fairview. Also, Mascoutah and Signal Hill fire departments served as a station backup for the departments that responded to the scene.
