Fire damages Sky Zone Trampoline Park fire in Fairview Heights. When will it reopen?
The Sky Zone Trampoline Park in Fairview Heights remained closed after it was damaged by fire, the fire chief said.
No one was injured in the fire reported at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday.
The fire apparently was caused by a malfunction in either an extension cord or a motor attached to the extension cord, according to Fairview Fire Department Chief Bryan Doyle.
The motor is used to blow air into an inflatable piece of equipment in the indoor trampoline park at 10850 Lincoln Trail.
A representative from Sky Zone could not be reached for comment but the company’s website states the business will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday. It lists business hours of 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. for Friday.
Sky Zone will not be permitted to reopen until authorities inspect the building, Doyle said.
Doyle said he arrived at Sky Zone four minutes after the fire was reported. He encountered “zero visibility” due to the heavy smoke in the building, which previously was a Hobby Lobby and Kmart.
The sprinkler system activated while Doyle was in the building and extinguished the fire. Firefighters did not have to spray water in the building.
Doyle said he did not have the value of the damage but he expected to get that later after the insurance company finishes its investigation.
The adjacent Ruler Foods grocery store also was closed because of minimal smoke and water damage but it was allowed to reopen Tuesday night, Doyle said.
Fairview received assistance from other departments, including O’Fallon, French Village, Swansea, Northwest St. Clair County and Collinsville Illinois Fire Department.
