Woman dies in three-vehicle crash on southern Illinois highway
A 31-year-old woman from Marion died in a three-vehicle crash Friday on a southern Illinois highway, according to authorities.
Illinois State Police had not released the woman’s name as of Saturday afternoon because her family had not been notified, the agency said. It provided preliminary investigative details in a news release.
It stated the woman was driving southbound on Illinois 37 in Williamson County around 3:43 p.m. Friday when her 2022 Dodge sedan crossed the center line, struck a 2000 Isuzu truck in the northbound lane and went off the road to the right.
A Dodge truck that had also been traveling southbound then struck the Isuzu truck, according to Illinois State Police’s investigation.
The 16-year-old driver and 15-year-old passenger in the Dodge truck and the 62-year-old driver in the Isuzu truck were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
It was not clear why the Dodge sedan crossed the center line as of Saturday. The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit continued investigating the fatal crash.
