One dead and another injured in East St. Louis house fire

A 63-year old woman died in a residential fire in the the 700 block of North 76th Street in East St. Louis Thursday morning, officials say.

The victim was identified by St. . Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. as Barbara Griggs. She was pronounced dead on scene at 8:56 a.m., Dye said.

East St. Louis Fire Chief Jason Blackmon said the fire appeared to have started in the bedroom of the house.

A male inside the house was injured in the fire and transported to a local hospital. His name has not been released and his condition is not currently known.

Blackmon said the Illinois Fire Marshal’s office was called to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.
