Retailer opens Men’s Store expansion in Highland, celebrates 125 years in business
Glik’s in Highland celebrated a ribbon cutting and grand opening for the new Men’s Store expansion Wednesday, Oct. 26.
The Glik family’s business, which now spans five generations, announced the expansion in June.
Glik’s President and CEO Jeff Glik said in a brief phone interview that since opening the Men’s Store, everything “has gone really well.”
“Men really like their own shop to shop in,” said Glik, adding that the goal was to provide men with their own shopping environment separate from women’s merchandise.
The expansion added about 2,400 square feet of space adjoining the existing Highland store, allowing the retail business to feature menswear in a dedicated space with a “man cave” feel.
It’s “very mensy,” said Glik, but not too much so that it would scare off women shoppers.
It also includes a big longhorn bull head (yikes!) mounted on the wall above the register, according to Glik.
In addition to the opening of the Men’s Store, Glik’s recently celebrated its 125th anniversary.
Glik said it was “quite the milestone” to celebrate the business that his great-grandfather, Joseph Glik, started in 1897.
Glik added that the business has entered its fifth generation with his son, Jeremy Glik, and nephew Elliott Glik.
The anniversary celebration took place the week of October 3-9.
A YouTube video was released by the company to thank customers for supporting them over the years.
Glik’s is headquartered in Collinsville. It relocated from Granite City in 2021.
The Highland store has been open since 1976. Other Illinois stores include locations in Edwardsville, Mount Vernon and Sparta.
Glik’s Highland is located at 2653 Northtown Way. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Monday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
