Cooler temperatures and clouds Thursday for the metro-east

Clouds and cool temperatures are in the Thursday forecast for the metro-east.

The high is expected to reach 78, five degrees higher than the Wednesday high of 73, according to the National Weather Service. But that’s still 10 degrees cooler than the average high of 88 for July 9 in the metro-east.

Storms carrying heavy rain could move into the area overnight.

There is a 30 percent chance of rain during the evening, which will increase to 70 percent as the calendar turns from Thursday to Friday. The overnight low will be 66.

Storms are expected to kick up around 1 a.m. Friday. They could linger throughout the day. But the best chance of rain will be before 8 a.m. The high temperature will be about 86.

There is a 50 percent chance of storms Friday evening before 8 p.m. The low is expected to be 70.

For the weekend, temperatures will be much warmer. But the weather is likely to be dry for a welcome change.

The high will be about 94 both Saturday and Sunday. There is a 20 percent chance of a stray thunderstorm each day. Otherwise, skies will be mostly sunny.
