A 62-year-old woman lost her life Saturday afternoon in a fire at her Washington Park home.

Estelle Foxworth was pronounced at the scene at 5:05 p.m., according to St. Clair Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.

Washington Park Assistant Fire Chief Ronnie Harris said firefighters were dispatched to the 1700 block of North 59th Street on the report of a structure fire. It was not known when the call was made if the building was occupied, Harris said.

At the scene, firefighters found two houses and two cars fully engulfed in flames. It took four hours to put out the intense blaze, Harris said.

The body was removed from the front part of the house by St. Clair County corner’s investigators. It was not immediately known whether Foxworth was living alone.

There were no other reported injuries.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office was called to investigate the origin and cause of the fire, Harris said.

Washington Park received mutual aid assistance from Camp Jackson Fire Department, Caseyville Fire Department and State Park Fire.
