Authorities have released the identities of three people involved in a fatal crash involving a farm utility vehicle and an SUV on a rural road in Jersey County on Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred about 2:43 p.m. on Oak Rest Road, just south of Illinois 16, according to a press release from Illinois State Police District 11.

Wayne D. Moore, 60, of Piasa, the driver of the utility vehicle, was killed. His passenger, Herbert D. Moore, 62, of Jerseyville, was transported to an area hospital with injuries.

Rebecca Courtoise, 54, of Jerseyville, the driver of the SUV, wasn’t injured.

According to a preliminary investigation:

  • A 2022 maroon Polaris Ranger utility vehicle driven by Wayne Moore was traveling north on Oak Rest Road, just south of Illinois 16.
  • A 2006 silver Ford Escape SUV driven by Courtoise attempted to pass the utility vehicle on the left.
  • Moore began making a left-hand turn into a farm field entrance and crossed into Courtoise’s path.
  • The Ford Escape struck the rear of the Polaris Ranger and caused it to roll over into the field, west of Oak Rest Road.

Moore was pronounced dead at the scene. No citations were issued, according to Illinois State Police Public Information Officer Jason Wilson.
