Funeral services set for St. Clair County Recorder of Deeds Michael Costello
Funeral services have been set for St. Clair County Recorder of Deeds Michael Costello, who died Friday at age 77.
Costello had served as recorder since 1984 and also served on the St. Clair County Board of Review for 10 years prior to being elected as recorder.
Former U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello said his brother died of natural causes from heart failure.
“Mike’s laughter was contagious, his heart full of Irish gold,” his obituary stated. “He never met a stranger and lived life to the fullest. He loved jokes, the laughter of a good party, and always wore a smile. He loved his family dearly.”
Rep. Costello said his brother “loved politics.”
Michael Costello was 29 when he was first elected to the board of review.
“He was a proud Democrat who believed in the principles of the Democratic Party. He worked on political campaigns since he was a teenager,” his obituary said.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kassly Mortuary at 9900 St. Clair Ave. in Fairview Heights and also 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Catholic Church at 301 N. Church St. in Belleville.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Catholic Church.
