Metro-east man killed, others injured in three-vehicle crash

A Bond County man was killed and multiple people were injured in a three-vehicle, post-holiday crash.

Robert L. Elmore, 63, of Mulberry Grove, was pronounced dead at the scene near the intersection of Illinois 127 and Illinois 143 in Bond County at about 4:18 p.m. Friday, according to Illinois State Police.

In a media release, ISP said Elmore was was driving a 2013 Dodge Journey northbound on Illinois 127, trailed by Ariel L. Bly, 25, of Greenville, who was driving a 2004 Chrysler Town and Country.

For unknown reasons, Elmore crossed the center line into the southbound lane and collided with a 2016 Ford F250 pickup truck driven by Justin P. Benhoff, 42, of Carlyle, causing a second collision with Bly.

Benhoff and his 13-year-old passenger were transported to an area hospital with injuries. Bly also was taken to a hospital with injuries, but her two passengers, a 3-year-old girl and 2-year-old girl, were not injured, police said.

The conditions of those injured is not immediately available.
