Video: New gun law is unclear and has customers upset, metro-east gun shop president says
A new Illinois gun law is not written clearly and is causing confusion among gun owners and dealers, the president of Ron & Jo’s Firearms & Sporting Supplies in O’Fallon told the BND this week.
“The law does not clearly tell us or the consumers or the people out there who own these firearms what you can do, what you can’t do. So, its leaving a lot of people panicked,” said Ronald L. Gompers, president of the company.
The BND’ photojournalist Derik Holtmann interviewed Gompers about his reaction the state’s new comprehensive gun law. The law bans the sale of military-style firearms, among other measures. The law also bans the sale of large-capacity ammunition magazines, and after April 10, allows possession of large-capacity magazines only on private property or a firing range, or at a gun-repair business.
Gompers said his customers are upset by the law because ``it is not written clearly. It doesn’t give you a lot of options for guns that don’t have 10-round capacity magazines. So we’re not sure what you as a consumer, us as a dealer, are allowed to deliver.”
Gompers gives detailed examples of what is confusing consumers and businesses during the interview, which you can watch here:
