Significant snowfall is forecast for the metro-east this week. Here’s what to expect
Southwestern Illinois may get up to seven inches of snow starting Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service issued a winter storm watch for southwestern Illinois and St. Louis from 6 p.m. Tuesday to noon Wednesday. The watch area includes St. Clair, Monroe, Madison, Bond, Clinton, Washington and Randolph counties, with 4-7 inches possible.
“Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous,” the National Weather Service in St. Louis said in its watch announcement. “Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes.”
The forecast calls for a low of 31 Tuesday night and a high of 37 on Wednesday. Chance of precipitation Tuesday night is 90% and Wednesday is 60%.
The Area Forecast Discussion posted around 5 a.m. Monday states that places along and south of Interstate 44 in Missouri and Interstate 70 may get the greatest snowfall at six to eight inches.
