Swansea officials announced the village will no longer require residents to purchase stickers for their trash collection, effective Monday, Feb. 27.

Residents will now receive a quarterly invoice from Republic Services at a rate of $17.30 per month, according to a press release. The trash collection schedule will remain the same. Recycling will be picked up every other week, the same day as trash.

Here’s the recycling pick up schedule through April:

  • Feb. 20 to 24

  • March 6 to 10

  • March 20 to 24

  • April 3 to 7

  • April 17 to 21

A discounted rate of $15.57 per month is available to households with at least one member who is 62 years or older. To apply for this rate, you can call Republic Services at 618-656-6883.

As of May 1, 2022, trash stickers cost $24.30 for five or $267.22 annually in Swansea. The number of stickers required for pick up depended on volume, weight and size. Assuming a resident used one trash sticker ($4.86) per week, the new $17.30 monthly rate is cheaper.

Swansea households will receive a 95-gallon cart for trash and another 95-gallon cart for recycling. As of Feb. 27, trash and recycling must be placed in these carts for pick up.

To dispose of any personal trash and recycling cans you no longer need, you can set them out on your service day and Republic Services will remove them. Officials ask residents to make sure carts are at least 3 feet apart from each other and have a 16-foot clearance above.

If you need assistance getting your cart to the curb due to a medical condition, you can contact Republic Services at 618-656-6883.

To receive an account credit for pre-purchased trash stickers, take them to the government center at 1444 Boul Ave. after Feb. 27.

For those who purchased yearly trash stickers, the village has already submitted your information to Republic Services and you do not need to bring anything into the office. Republic Services will issue a credit on your billing statement, Swansea officials say.
