Crashes cause traffic problems Wednesday morning
Getting around wasn’t easy for metro-east motorists Wednesday morning. Multiple traffic problems jammed local roadways as folks were trying to get to work.
▪ On Interstate 64 westbound, traffic was backed up near Illinois 4 in the Lebanon area at just before 9 a.m. due to an accident. Illinois State Police were unable to release any details about the crash in the immediate aftermath. But police cars and fire trucks were seen headed to the area.
▪ At just after 7:30 a.m., traffic was blocked on Green Mount Road just north of the Green Mount Commons shopping center near the border between Belleville and Shiloh.
According to emergency responders, a semi truck tried to turn around in the area and got stuck, blocking the entire roadway in both directions.
According to police, there were no other vehicles in the incident that left traffic backed up all the way south to Illinois 15 in Belleville.
▪ At just after 7 a.m. there was a crash on Illinois 160 near Grantfork.
The collision involved two cars. There was no word about injuries in the immediate aftermath. But an ambulance was dispatched to the scene.
▪ A report said that traffic on eastbound I-64 at Baugh Avenue was backed up.
