Funeral services, fundraising account set for southern Illinois coal miner
Funeral services have been set for a coal miner who died in a Hamilton County underground coal mine.
Cameron Fourez, 41, of West Frankfort, died Saturday due to closed chest injuries he suffered when a coal mine roof collapsed, according to preliminary autopsy results released by Hamilton County Coroner Steve Bowling on Monday.
Fourez’s survivors include his wife, Brianna Fourez, two sons, a daughter and his parents, according to his obituary posted by the Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort. The notice also states his survivors included “his brotherhood of coal miners.”
A GoFundMe fundraising page was established to assist the family.
Visitation will be 12-2 p.m. Sunday at the Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort with the funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday.
The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration is investigating Fourez’s death.
Alliance Resource Partners LP is listed as the controller of the Hamilton No. 1 Mine near Mount Vernon, according to the federal agency.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration previously investigated two fatalities linked to the coal mine. A miner died in 2019 and another miner died in a hospital in October 2015 after being injured in the mine in August 2015.
