The husband and I like to dine out (more than we probably should). Last week he wanted Italian for dinner.

We don’t usually go to Italian restaurants because they often lack vegan options for me.

(Seriously, with Italian food, there’s a lot of meat and dairy involved there.)

I wasn’t in the mood for pizza sans cheese (again), so we took to the internet to look for a place that could accommodate.

Success! We found a place.

Ravanelli’s Italian Steak House & Wine Bar in Collinsville has an offering of vegan entreés. I ordered the Chick’n Parmesan, which came with soup (vegan tomato basil) and salad.

It. Was. DELICIOUS! I was so happy!

And the husband got to enjoy a meaty, cheesy lasagna that he said was excellent.

When dining out, we choose from our usual haunts and take-out places. But for a foodie like the husband, that can get old quickly.

He’s that guy who will look for the most interesting (I say weirdest) item on the menu and order that. He loves to try new things. He deserves to eat at new places he can enjoy.

But we have a hard time choosing a place because they lack vegan options for me.

And we are always looking. (Mostly him, because he’s great like that.)

Yes, many places will accommodate and customize a dish for me. I appreciate that every time.

Sometimes I feel bad for asking.

Other times … OK, just the one time, I special ordered a salad and ended up with a plate of nothing but spinach.

Like, dude, really? (That was 15 years ago and I still haven’t let that one go.)

But to have places that offer straight vegan options – that’s the dream!

So, good readers, I am asking you to help out this vegan gal.

Do you know of any restaurants that offer vegan and vegetarian options for the veggie people in our area? (Of course, meat eaters can enjoy them too. I know the husband does.)

If you do, please let me know by sending an email to jgreen@bnd.com.
