Identity of 79-year-old metro-east woman struck and killed by truck is released

A woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck in the 5900 block of Bond Avenue in Cahokia Heights on Sunday night.

Doretha Epps 79, of the 1100 block of North 45th St., Washington Park, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 10 p.m. Sunday, according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.

Detective Jamal Jackson of the Cahokia Heights Police Department said the accident remains under investigation.

Jackson said the accident was reported at 8:50 p.m.

Preliminary information shows the victim, a pedestrian, was in the middle of the street when the eastbound 2004 Silverado struck her, Jackson said.

“The Silverado attempted to stop, but was unable to,” Jackson said.

Jackson said the driver, a 44-year-old Cahokia Heights resident, is “fully cooperating with police.”
