A Red Bud woman died Friday night after being struck by a pickup truck while attempting to cross the street.

According to Red Bud Police Chief John Brittingham, Kimberly A. Martin, 56, of Red Bud was struck by a Ford F 150 driven by a Sparta man as he was pulling out of East South First Street on Main Street traveling in the wrong direction.

Martin died during a helicopter flight to a St. Louis hospital, Brittingham confirmed.

The driver of the pickup has not been charged, Brittingham said. He did not appear intoxicated, but was taken to a local hospital for a toxicology screening as a precautionary measure. Brittingham is not sure when authorities will have the results.

Red Bud police, Red Bud Fire Department, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, MedStar EMS and ARCH Air Medical Services responded, Brittingham noted.

The accident took place around 11:20 p.m. Friday near the Red Bud Firemen’s Picnic grounds on opening night of the event, the Republic-Times reported.
