Portions of I-55/64 near the Poplar Street Bridge could be closed for weeks, IDOT said

Portions of Interstate 55/64 going both directions will be closed beginning July 31, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

There will be intermittent shoulder and single lane closures on the interstate between the Popular Street Bridge and the I-64 exit. The closure is necessary to complete road surveying, IDOT said.

Surveying will last approximately two weeks, according to IDOT.

A detour will be marked, but IDOT encourages commuters to find alternate routes. Those driving on the highway should be aware of workers, changes in signs and conditions, follow posted speed limits and refrain from using mobile devices, IDOT said.
