Madison County coroner releases ID of man killed in motorcycle crash

A 33-year-old Wood River man died in a motorcycle crash in Alton, the Madison County coroner announced Tuesday.
Larry M. Patton was pronounced deceased at the scene Saturday night at 145 West Broadway, Coroner Steve Nonn said in a news release.
Patton, who was not wearing a helmet, was driving east on West Broadway at a high rate of speed when his 2005 Harley-Davidson Road King left the roadway and struck a pole, causing him to be ejected, Nonn said according to witness statements and evidence examined at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and the Alton Police Department.
The preliminary cause of death appears to be blunt head trauma but a final cause of death will not be issued until toxicology testing is finished, Nonn said.
The Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is handling arrangements.
