State Police assist in possible meth lab investigation at Caseyville hotel
Illinois State Police assisted Caseyville Police with a possible meth lab, State Police said.
Emergency crews were at First Western Inn in Caseyville, 8787 Sasak Place on Sunday, said State Police Sgt. J. Miller.
Officers responded at 9:30 a.m. to the hotel just north of I-64 to assist the French Village Fire Department.
There were suspicious fumes when emergency personnel arrived, Caseyville Police Chief Frank Moore said.
Yellow caution tape was used to cordon off a second floor First Western Inn room, which had its door left open by emergency crews.
Police eventually backed off from the room.
“Bottom-line, safety first,” Moore said.
State police was on the scene and took over the investigation, Moore said.
Moore added one person is in custody and what charges the person might face will depend on the investigation.
Two police officers were taken to the hospital out of precaution, but were in good condition, Moore said.
No other information was immediately available.
