Governors in at least six states have ordered National Guardsmen to be armed in the wake of an attack on two military recruitment facilities in Tennessee last week. Florida Gov. Rick Scott went a step further Saturday by immediately relocating recruiters to armories, according to Military.com.
In an executive order, Scott, a Republican, said he wants Guard recruiters to move from six storefront locations into armories until state officials can evaluate and make security improvements, including possibly installing bullet-proof glass or enhanced surveillance equipment.
Scott ordered the Guardsmen to be armed, as did governors in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Indiana.

The Navy is going on a health kick and removing all fried food from dining hall menus, Military.com reported.
To kick up its healthy eating “Go for Green” campaign, it will stop frying foods like chicken and french fries and bake them instead. It is also axing whole milk and replacing it with skim and soy.
In May, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus announced the menu revisions as part of efforts to improve sailors’ food, uniforms, training and overall fitness to boost field performance and lower medical costs.

The Army’s top officer believes the fight against the Islamic State, commonly known as ISIS or ISIL, will last “10 to 20 years,” an expansion of the timelines generally offered by the Obama administration, according to Military Times.
Gen. Ray Odierno, the Army chief of staff, said the solution to the militant group cannot come entirely by military means.
“In my mind, ISIS is a 10- to 20-year problem, it’s not a two years problem,” he told reporters Friday. “Now, I don’t know what level it will be a problem, but it’s a long-term problem.”
